Long Island University (LIU) is a private higher educational institution that was founded in 1926 to provide affordable education to students of all sorts of socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. The school’s Brooklyn campus is recognized as highly diverse, and one of America’s safest college campuses.
The school is located at the corner of DeKalb and Flatbush Avenues in Downtown Brooklyn. LIU offers over 500 academic programs at its two main campuses (LIU Brooklyn and LIU Post) and non-residential programs several other locations and has a worldwide alumni network of over 182,000. University Scholar Award
Long Island University’s “University Scholar Award” is available to both new freshmen and transfer students at the University. Freshmen are required to have at least a high school average of 92, and no less than a 1300 SAT score (480 verbal). Transfer students are required to possess an associate degree issued by a select accredited community college with at least a 3.75 GPA.
Long Island University’s “Presidential Scholarship” is open to transfer students and new freshmen at Long Island University, Brooklyn. Freshmen need to have at least an 88 high school average and no less than a 1200 SAT score (480 verbal). Transfer students must at least have completed 45 credits with at least a 3.75 GPA.
Distinguished Scholar Award
Long Island University’s “Distinguished Scholar Award” is available to new freshmen and also to transfers who are receiving the Presidential Scholarship or the University Scholar. Transfer students are required to have completed no less than 45 credits with at least a 3.75 GPA score, and Freshmen need to have at least an 88 high school average as well as a min. 1200 SAT score (480 verbal). The award can be renewed with a minimum score of 3.0 GPA. Award recipients are required to enroll in no less than 16 credits each term.’
Provost’s Excellence Award
The school’s “Provost’s Excellence Award” is available to both transfer students and freshmen. Transfer students need to have completed 45 credits with a minimum GPA score of 3.5, while freshmen need to have no less than high school average of at least 90. The Provost’s Excellence Award can be renewed with a score of at least 3.0 GPA.
Academic Incentive Award
Also, the “Academic Incentive Award” of LIU can be applied for by new freshmen and transfers. New freshmen require a high school average of 86 and up, whereas transfers need to have completed 32 credits or more with a 3.3 GPA or higher. Martin Luther King Jose Marti Award
LIU’s “Martin Luther King Jose Marti Award” can be applied for by freshmen who have a high school average of at least 85, and no less than a 1000 SAT score. Transfer and continuing students are required to have a 3.0 GPA or higher. The MLKJM Award is renewable but a 3.0 GPA or up is required. New freshmen also need to demonstrate that they need financial support, take part in an admission interview, and submit an essay.
Urban Education Scholar-Service Award
Long Island University also offers the “Urban Education Scholar-Service Award”. Which is open to freshmen who have a high school average of at least 86, to transfer students who have completed no less than 32 credits with a 3.3 GPA or higher, and continuing students who completed no less than 48 credits with a 3.3 GPA or higher and who completed TAL 201. The school’s Urban Education Scholar/Service Award can be renewed, but a minimum 3.0 GPA is required, and you need to be an education major who, upon graduation, will be teaching in New York City public schools.
Activity Scholar-Service Award
The school’s “Activity Scholar-Service Award” is available to those students who are demonstrating skills and talent in art, journalism, dance, media arts, cheerleading, sports, pep band, music, communication studies, or science. Students who receive the award are required to volunteer 15 hours a week, and the award may be renewed with a 2.5 GPA and up.
Long Island University Grant
The LIU Grant is available to transfers and new freshmen who were not receiving any academic or skills award upon admission.
Pharmacy Alumni Award
The school’s “Pharmacy Alumni Award” is available to freshmen students who plan to be majoring in pharmacy. Applicants are required to have been recruited by one of the school’s pharmacy alumni.
